TVP is a smart animation software, also I found it very easy to use and more importantly.. very LIGHT. a student of mine recommended it for me. at the beginning I underestimated it, but I was wrong.. the software was incredibly powerful, the funniest thing.. I started to like the software as a drawing and sketching tool! anyway just try it and you'll see.

My brother is working on a Mac OS Gadget called "Weather HD" with a software company named "V Move" and of course it's a weather gadget. anyway.. he decided to ad a video animation to the gadget witch describes the weather condition, and the transition from condition to another. I did this concept art as a presentation, the job was to setup a storyboard that pictures every condition and it's transitions, it was going to be a lot of work. eventually I stepped down, and somebody else is going to illustrate the storyboard.

The organizers of the African Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) Nigeria 2010, thought about an animated promo for the festival. I did some concept art sketches for the job using my old Genius tablet, and my friend "Sabry" used it to create a storyboard for the promo. Dr.Ghazala got us this job as he won the best animated short film prize in AMAA last year.

Crowdspring.com is a website that my brother told me about. it's basically a place to find graphic design jobs, mostly logo and stationary design. the good thing about it is that it's not about bidding the lowest price. the budget for every project is fixed and the participants show their work to be rated by the project owner. it's more like a contest. and you can make more than one contribution to every project. and by seeing everybody's work and rating you have a good way to evaluate your work and make it better.

This is my first contribution, it's a logo for a clothing brand named "Rooster", I scored 4 of 5 stars with this.

These were other contributions for the same project, but with no score.

We didn't get a confirmation for "Kelma x Rasma", but we have an order for a new Show for Ramadan. it's ao similar to "House of tales" that we did last year. actually it's almost the same idea and script. they keep telling me that this will be only for the pilot episode and they will find more stories afterwords. I tried to give the pilot a new style.. but as I predicted, it was rejected.

Guys.. I bought a Cintiq :D

For anyone who doesn't know what the "Cintiq" is. it's a pen display tablet.. simply a Tablet with a screen on it. can you imagine the difference that it could make? no more hard time with connecting your eye with your arm. your actually drawing directly on the screen. This could save plenty of time and effort. and of course insures the quality.

Cintiq is a wacom tablet, witch means it is the best, and witch also means it is expensive. I got me the little one "12wx" and it cost me a fortune. anyway I'm so happy with it.

I drew this sketch once I installed it on my computer.. I guess it means "Now what?!!"

House of Tales

I've been working on This for more than a month. and here it is.. my first animated cartoon series. this will be aired on Nile Family in Ramadan. I'm so happy with it, this is what I've always looking for. this is ME :D

The series is called "House of Tales" it's a children show. I did only 7 episodes of the show. the other 7 were traditional animated by the rest of the Art department team. every episode was had a separate story line. so the variety of animation style from one episode to another wasn't a problem.

And I got the title sequence also.. the montage and mixage wasn't that good, maybe it was bad. but I'm really happy with it. I was working every 3 minute episode from scratch in only 3 days! I was on fire. I think I got my spirit back again. check it out.

It's not what I had in mined, but that's what they liked at Robocon. They wanted a mascot character for the contest. They wanted it to be a "Pharaoh Robot!" and they wanted it to be added to the logo they sent me. witch is by the way simple and nice. and the result was this presentation for the stationary. and yes.. they liked it!

Another channel branding in Maspiro. this time it's the Nile University channel new brand idents. as they kept the old logo, I took the logo elements and color scheme and came up with these simple 7 idents. and they liked them. but they want them in 3D. so.. Robocon is a robot contest! it's being held by Higher Education Ministry and ERTU "Egypt Radio and Television Union" for the colleges and institutes to contribute as teams, I guess the purpose is to encourage the robotic industries. the event holds locally every year in different countries around the world under the banner of ABU "Asia-pacific Broadcasting Union", and holds Internationally in one of those countries every year also.

This year Robocon international contest will be held in Egypt. aside from the local Robocon contest. That's two big events in one year. anyway a friend of mine in Maspiro "Sherif" -He has my name!- recommended me to the Union to design the logo and identity of this year's both local and international contests.

I started with putting concept arts and logo designs as a presentation to the organizers. nothing they liked so far. I still can't tell what are they have in mind.

Cultural Center

Friend of mine "Mansour" he is aslo a fellow teacher at college. he is creating a short film for the "Cultural Center" about the fascination of books. it's involved in some cultural campaign of reading books I guess. anyway he did the artwork and the character design and the layout of the film, and he asked me to do the animation. the budget on this was very low but I'm happy to work on it.

Nile Comedy

Nile Comedy is a new channel that will be lunched sooner on Nile Television Network. as for the channel brand idents.. it was outsourced to different agencies outside Maspiro. the funny thing is that one of the studios working on the channel bumpers was Zam Zam Animation! and I did those bumpers as a freelance for Zam Zam!! I was just an animator on this. the artwork and character designs were done by a caricature artist working with Zam Zam called "Yaser". I used Adobe Flash CS3 in this job, I thought it's time to start accepting that Macromedia is no more.

Teaching Animation!

I've got a job as an assistant animation teacher. and guess where.. I'll teach animation at Menia University, the Fine Art college, the animation department. the very place that I've graduated from!

This is a huge step in my life. I'm going to prepare for Master degree in animation then go for PHD.. going back to the traveling life, back and forth between Cairo and Menia. new people, new activities and a new career.

It is a whole new life plan! the thing is.. I didn't even planed it!! it just happened. it's the one opportunity that I couldn't refuse. of course it's a good thing. but I'm tired of changeovers. I don't know where this will take me, but I'm going for it anyway.

At least I have a friend "Sabry" he is working as an assistant teacher there for a year now. we'll be traveling together like old days. this will start next February, I hope it's going to be fine.

This is a TV show package I did in Masoiro. the show called "Dida Tales" it was a children show, and it aired on Nile Family channel. I used Flash + Anime Studio + After Effect in this job.

These are the character sheets for the title sequence. they are the same as the marionettes of the show. I did the breakdown of the characters to use them in the bone rigging system of Anime studio, that worked nice with the marionette effect.

Dr. Zainab Zamzam the CEO of "Zam Zam Animatin" offered me to co-produce an animated series called "3 Tourism" with her!!! this was like a whole new level for me. If this real.. I'm going to be a show creator. and actually started on the pre-production process. but it was all gone with the wind when we clashed on the financial level :(

We are preparing here in Maspiro for "Ramadan" the Islamic month of fast. and I got a job for a Title sequence of a TV show called "before Breakfast" that will be aired everyday in Ramadan before breakfast!! this was my first job using Adobe After Effects. it is really a smrt software.

High Budget!

This is my first success in Maspiro. it is my first high budgeted animation project. it's a Government New Traffic Act Campaign. I did a series of animation sequences that will be add to some motion graphics and narration material to form the segments of the campaign. it is supposed to be aired on many different channels, or maybe all national channels I don't know yet. Anime Studio is a brilliant animation software, it's a product of the same company that owns Manga Studio, I think I love those guys, although it's not a full feature animation software, but the bone rigging part is wonderful.. it's just like 3D bones system, except it's for 2D drawings. and there is also a particle system feature, and a Z dimension for camera. it's a total break through!

This is the first job I did with Anime Studio, it's a title sequence for a TV show I did in "Maspiro". the show called "Full Mark" it's an education show. I used the Z camera feature and the particle system feature.

Turning Point

It was a really hard decision to make.. I left "Aroma"!! and now I'm working as a free contractor with "Maspiro" this is a big turning point in my career..

I decided to leave the web industry for ever as I am finally convinced that I must pursuit my career in animation without any diversions.
I decided to leave Aroma as I realized that I will always be only a tool there, never a really creative artist with his own vision. even if this vision is still immature, it won't grow up in "Aroma".
I decided to never work a full time job, if I really want to be an independent artist.
I decided to work with "Maspiro" as a free contractor artist, so I can have a good income while I have time to lead my life anyway I want.

Everybody thinks I'm crazy.. I don't know maybe I am. but hey.. I'm still 24 what could happen :D

Stay or Leave

I got a job offer in The Egyptian National Radio and Television Union, witch we call "Maspiro", the job is in the Art department of the Nile Channels division. the problem is the salary is not very high but anyway I decided to leave "Aroma" actually I decide to leave web design and development field. I'm an animation artist and I don't want to forget that.

This where it got really complicated.. the day that I was talking to my manager about leaving is the day that he told me that they will transfer me to the "Creative Department" to work as an animator. this was the second time they punched me in the face!

Now I'm to confused.. should I stay and be a creative member of the most successful advertising studio in Egypt? or should still be leaving?

They gave me some time to think it out. in the mean while I started a task with a guy called "Rahmy" in the creative team. it's a campaign about traffic laws. I think it's like they are giving me some sedative! I don't know.. anyway this is the illustration I made from Rahmy's sketches.

Aroma Creatives

it's been 3 months now, since I got the job here in "Aroma". it's like hell to me. I'm not built for this.. wake up early every morning, ride the subway down town, sit in front of desktop monitor for like 10 hours or more!! and guess what.. all I can see is the code lines that I write! nothing more. I didn't even noticed that it was 3 months till now.

I did some good work, but it was all canceled. they say that canceled projects are more than the accepted ones. and there is nothing wrong with that!! I say it is totally frustrating.

The only good thing that I did here is the website of the creative division of the company and it's called "Aroma Creatives" this project took me a very long time to complete. it's like 4000 lines of code! all in actionscript. I think what is good about it that it didn't have a deadline and I knew it won't be canceled. I got the job in "Aroma" after I discovered that they are the leader studio in media advertising in Egypt, they are the best, and I got a nice salary. and now I'm sitting beside my brother in the web development department.

My first task was a web animation for a website of an agency named "look" the idea was to take the double O in look "oo" and use them in animated presentation of the website pages.

I did it trying to impress the creative director, so I can transfer myself from the web development department to the creative department. I don't know if it's going to work, but they need me here in the web department. they say that my experience in web design and development exceeded my experience in drawing and animation. it was like they punched me in the face!

Abu El Futoh

This is another painting with Photoshop and Tablet, This time I'm influenced with the technique of a guy called "Abu El Futoh" who's working as a creative artist in advertising company called "Aroma", my friend "Sabry" worked with them as an animator, and now my brother is working there as a web developer. now I'm getting an offer to work there. but in web design not in animation. what a shame!

Concept for Concept

Some of my old friends are forming a business marketing company, they called it "Concept" and they came to me to give it a brand identity. I came up with these logo concepts, the funniest thing that it was a concept for concept. if you know what I mean.

The chose a logo and I did this color variation and a presentation for business card design, to help them choosing the color scheme.

When they decided the color scheme I did this presentation for the company stationary, and they liked it. so we started printing.

I did this job back when I was working on my graduation project. it's not that good, it was for some biotechnology company called "Spectrum", I used a purchased template design, no animation at all, few actionscript lines and I didn't do a CMS, I confess.. I did it only for money.

I completed my graduation project on time.
I got a A+ on that project, and I ranked second of my class.
I officially graduated form college. now I have a "Bachelor of Fine Arts".

2 Weeks

I have only 2 weeks to complete my graduation project. as with the tiny idea that I have. it's growing now to be a good plot. I added a good twist to it, and finally I'm beginning to like it. I settled down in my apartment in "Menia", I have a new powerful PC, my "Genius" tablet, and I have a big sign on my monitor that says "DON'T PANIC!" now I'm depending on my luck! speaking of luck.. lucky me I'm almost broke these days... so much spending, no income at all. my brother is fixing this, he is trying to get me a freelance web-design job. as for me I fell like coding scripting will be really confusing at the moment.

At the mean time.. I didn't start production, it's all just pre-production work, sketches, concept art, character designs, backgrounds and storyboards. I'm not going to show you this now. but here is some sketches that I did in Manga Studio with my Genius. I did this to stop myself from panicking!

Getting Ready

I finished my final exams and now I'm getting ready to start my graduation project. I decided to use the idea that I have. anyway it's the only option now. still working on it's concept art. didn't decide the style that I will use yet. as for the main character of the film, I did these two tests.. the first one is in Flash and the second is in Manga Studio. Both drown with tablet.

New savior in town. Manga Studio is a software that I've been working with latly. this thing is a bomb I'm telling you. it's designed to create Manga or Comics in general. it's mainly depends on using a pen tablet. drawing on this software gave me confidence in my Genius Tablet again.

Genius

Genius is my new friend, "Genius" is a pen Tablet that I bought to save myself, it's funny that you can by something that will save you! as if it really would. anyway I'm still not accustom to it. using Tablet is a really hard thing to do I'm telling you. before I get it.. I felt that it was a must. as I know that the more you become digitized the more you can go on. but now that I have it.. I feel like I want to run away from it!

It's not the Tablet but it's me. it's my graduation nightmare. I still don't see the film in my mind. what keeps me from going on is that I hope that I come up with a new idea that will push everything. but still nothing. I think I'm stuck with the idea that "Galal" gave me. but it's just like a seed of a an idea, and it didn't grew up yet.

One Last Shot

Here I am.. in my last year at college! it all went pretty fast. yesterday I was a freshmen and today I'm going to be a graduate! I've had some nice time, I think I did well. but.. I still think of my self as a beginner. I look back and I don't see where or when it all happened! while I was waiting to get a chance to make my first attempts and tryouts, now I'm supposed to make my last and full animation project in college. it's like the one last shot that will define you. it's my graduation project and it's deadline is 2 month or less from now!

I've taken too much time to think of an idea for the project, and I come up with nothing. my friend "Galal" gave me a small idea as a chance to work myself out of this. I don't know what's wrong, this is sick.

Anyway I did some tryouts to present the look and feel of the film to my teachers.. it was not the right thing as I knew it's not what I'm going for. it was just not right.

Friend of my brother introduced us to the owner of a textile auxiliary company called The Egyptian Turkish Company (ETC) we made him a proposal for a website plan. and we showed him a demo website along with an advertising animation intro. we didn't get the job yet. but I'd say that unlike online marketing.. local marketing is really frustrating :-s

Car Wash

Another project I'm working on for "Apex", our partner in Virginia US got us a website for a car wash brand called "Mighty Spray Car Wash", the project turned into printing design advertising identity for the brand. this is the presentation I made.

This is the advertising flier, the strangest thing is that I did it in Flash instead of Illustrator! I guess I'm getting addicted to Flash now :-s

Our friend from Virginia US who was a client at first, now became more of a business partner to Apex. since my debut in actionscript "Hawaii Luxury Stone" he managed to get me more than one job. I'm very enthusiastic about the challenges.

Here is one job witch is in the same style, CMS included. it's a website for a company in flooring business called Better Floors Inc. I guess I started a luxury trend or something :)

Triumph

Apex gained some power. and now we have multiple online clients, we are fast learners, so we picked it up pretty fast. I've never thought that I'll get that good with code. it appears that I like programming after all, thanks to by brother who taught how to use actionscript. I'm discovering myself all over again.

My first full dynamic website was for a company that sells luxury granite called "Hawaii Luxury Stone" I did the website complete with a CMS (Control Management System) it's fully dynamic, fully interactive, easy to update and manage, very clean and neat and of course.. has a very high budget :D

The CMS part was more like application development. dragging and dropping, image cropping, real-time editing, auto-saving and error reporting system. it's all object oriented and full proof. for me.. it was a triumph!

I did it all in Flash! beside a little php scripting just for writing files and sending e-mails. It is so so sad that I can't show you the CMS but here is the link to the website itself :

It was a fun thing to do. me and a bunch of my old friends and neighbors decided to have our own online community! we called it "Salata" witch means "Salad" as an indication to the variety of people and subjects on the forum. I built the website using a PHPBB script, and gave it a Template design, and a set of icons and emoticons.

We Meet Again

After a long 3 years, I,m getting into a 3ds Max course in college!! it's just a short beginners course, but it was totally odd. since I deliberately stopped learning max.. and now it pops in front of me!

The course was an easy job for me. as all projects were just 3D fundamentals. models, materials and lights all over again! and wen we come to animation.. it is as always as it was. TOO ADVANCED for beginners!

This is a project i did on the course, i experimented a very strange technique, witch I learned afterwords that it's used in game development.. There is NO LIGHT SOURCES in this scene!! it is all just material mapping for light and shade. anyway.. the result was cool i guess.
